Spent a couple of hours this morning on the causeways at Abberton Reservoir. West of Layer Breton causeway and reasonably close were five Smew including two drakes and a drake Goosander.

East of Layer de la Haye Causeway were 20+ Great Crested Grebes and eventually found a distant Black-necked and Slavonian Grebe. While two Marsh Harriers quartered scaring pretty much all the waterfowl.
Not a bad morning five year ticks and both scarce grebes, I went away happy until I was almost home and heard a Grey Phalarope had been found on the reserve Doh!
