Over the bank holiday weekend I twice visited Rainham Marsh west, spending a couple of hours each time looking for the Wryneck without success. There were lots of Sedge Warblers 20+ along the footpath that cuts through the middle of the area.

A Cuckoo was singing on the adjacent silt lagoons, Swifts flashed by overhead and a Hobby was my first of the year.
At home in my garden I rescued an Angle Shades moth from my garden shed, while an Old Lady caterpillar was climbing a dandelion stem and a Carnation Tortrix was resting on foliage.
