After the hottest August Bank Holiday since records began, today felt distinctly like autumn. The morning was overcast and much cooler and from midday it started raining and look set to continue for the rest of the day. Bird wise the reserve was fairly quiet, most of the action was on the river and I did manage to catch some of it. Lots of terns were moving up river often in quite large groups of a 100+ mainly common terns with some arctic a couple of sandwich and at least ten black terns. I managed to avoid seeing all the black terns but did manage one sandwich and a drake common scoter.
